Saturn with its rings against a background of stars

Two smaller images expand and elaborate the motif of Astronomy as an aesthetic and a practical activity. An image of Saturn, perhaps the most beautiful and accessible telescopic sight in the sky, evokes the wonders to be seen and understood through astronomy. At the time the Academy dome was designed, this unique ringed planet was the most popular image representing visual astronomy to the public.
